On the 11th May, we invited 3 teams who are attending the Old Girls’ “World Cup”, in France, to join us for an 11v11 Festival to raise funds for the French Tournament.
Bromley Belles FC, Canterbury Old Bags and Lewes Ladies’ Vets brought teams to play on the Stadium pitch, in what was a first for a lot of the players. Turning up and seeing the size of the pitch and the goals brought some “Oh my Gods” from a fair few!
Games were 20 minutes each straight through and we were treated to heavy wind, rain and hail once the first game had started! Wet straight through was probably the most accurate description of all the players playing in that first game by the time it had finished! Luckily, we were also treated to some sunshine and warmer weather later in the day!
Being the women we all are, the painful hailstones being pelted on the players were brushed off but GK Ginny managed to find refuge in the terrace while the ball was up the other end! Great initiative, Ginny!
It was a great afternoon of fun, lots of running and a win for COGS Yellow! We would like to thank Joe Comper at Crawley Town for his continuous help for us, enabling us to raise funds for the Old Girls’ “World Cup”.
We were all shattered by the end of it and still a week later by all accounts but we had a great day and made lots of memories.
After the day’s festivities, it was time for the COGS’ Bingo Night and we were delighted that some of the Canterbury Old Bags stayed for the evening. Thanks to everyone who came.
Some good money was raised for France and we had a lot of fun while doing it!
