Mums’/Recreational Tournament (2) – Whyteleafe FC – 24th June 2017.

So successful was the first ever Mums’/Recreational Tournament run by Emma Barnes (Surrey FA) and Roxanne Bennett (CPFC Life Foundation), in March 2017, that another one was arranged 3 months’ later!  In conjunction with CPFC Life Foundation and Surrey FA the second successful tournament was held at Whyteleafe FC and this time was a 7v7 competition on the main 3G pitch instead of a 6 a-side fast game in the 3G cage.

For the second tournament there were 8 teams who entered, including 3 new teams.  The Canterbury Old Bags, Merstham Ladies and ESPS Phoenix all made their debuts and appeared to enjoy every minute while the COBs (as we’ll call them) and ESPS both made it to the Final.

Congratulations to winners ESPS Phoenix & Runners’ Up Canterbury Old Bags!

Two teams from the CPFC Foundation, 2 COGs’ teams and Woking FC Diamonds completed the entries.

We took 2 teams along, COGs Black and COGs Red and even had a very special mascot supporting us, Huxley the dog in his COGs shirt!

The games were 8 minutes long and were thoroughly entertaining with some great goals scored. 4 teams made up each League and the final game was played against the team in the corresponding place in the opposite League. It was fantastic to see so many Mums and “older” ladies enjoying an afternoon of football.  New friendships were made as well as arrangements for friendlies (and drinks afterwards!). We even had some fantastic young supporters from Merstham who started singing to their Mums “you don’t know what you’re doing!” and “let’s pretend you’ve scored a goal!” in true terrace style fashion…..

The whole afternoon was full of fun and camaraderie and we all went away having had an amazing time playing football!

It was great to see the event supported by the FA, with Rachel Pavlou, the FA Women’s Football Development National Manager, in attendance and presenting the medals and trophy.

Finally, we would like to thank Merstham Ladies for inviting us back to Merstham FC for a few drinks to celebrate a fantastic afternoon!
