Surrey County FA Women’s Recreational Festival – 4th November 2017 – Woking Leisure Centre.

Saturday 4th November saw us go back to the venue which Surrey FA had used for the first ever Mums’/Recreational Football Tournament, at Woking Leisure Centre, in March 2017.

For anyone who is used to playing “off boards”, it’s hard work but when it’s your first tournament, it’s even harder but a great way to start!

This time, after discussions with Emma Barnes & Jon Burr at Surrey FA, it was decided that giving more women the opportunity to play would mean, for this tournament, that there would be 2 different groups.  One for beginners and one for improvers with some experienced players who had come back into the game.

This is now where Women’s Recreational Football is still growing and enabling women to come back into the game, is another part of women wanting to play socially.  The COGS also have a mixture of ladies and this is one area we are looking at increasing.  We are currently running sessions for advanced or ex-players on Wednesday evenings at 8.30-9.30pm at the Checkatrade Stadium.  It’s only £2 for an hour’s play and coaching.  Why not give it a try? Details of all our sessions are on the website.

COGS Red 1 and COGS Red 2.

The Beginners’ group included 2 teams from the Woking Diamonds (who have just celebrated their 1st Anniversary – Congratulations!), Merstham Ladies, Horsham Eagles and our COGS’ beginners.  It was great to see the enjoyment and camaraderie between all the teams. Some of our ladies were playing in their first tournament and despite feeling a bit tired, absolutely loved it!  Congratulations to Woking Diamonds B who clinched the Beginners’ Group title.

COGS RED 2
Merstham Ladies

The Improvers’/Exp. Group included, as well as our COGS Red 2 team, teams from AFC Wimbledon, 2 teams from East Sheen Primary School Mums, Palace Pumas and Futsal Fever.  Well done to our team who won medals for second place.  A great achievement!

Runners up in the Improvers/Exp. Group!

Congratulations go to the Sheen Mounties who won the Improvers’/Exp. Group.

Great to see new teams entering and the fun and enjoyment that Women’s Social/Recreational Football brings to women who just want to play the beautiful game, regardless of age or ability.

Great stuff again, Surrey FA!
