COGS, BBC Sport, BBC Get Inspired and the FA People’s Cup – 26th January 2018.

After the visit to St. George’s Park to help launch the FA People’s Cup, with BBC Get Inspired, Carol Bates was invited to the BBC Sport Studios in Manchester, to talk about the Crawley Old Girls and the affinity we have with the People’s Cup.  The morning’s schedule involved doing some radio and TV interviews, with Radio1 Extra DJ, Nick Bright, as well as being part of a Live Facebook piece, for BBC Sport.  Nick has been involved with the FA People’s Cup now for 4 years and is a familiar voice not only on the Radio but also when it comes to the People’s Cup!

The day began at 6.20am at the amazing BBC Sport building, in Media City, in Manchester.  Amanda Barnes from BBC Sport, who helped organise the schedule, arranged for Carol & Nick to go on Nicky Campell’s Radio 5 Live show as the first stop.  It was a great experience to be chatting on air in the Radio 5 Live studio, with Nicky Campbell and Rachel Burden!

Next up was a Live Facebook chat for BBC Sport, which also included Tara Davidson from Wockey FC.  Tara and her team entered the FA People’s Cup in 2017 as a group who played hockey and didn’t expect to get anywhere, let alone go to Wembley and pick up a Trophy!

Then it was off to record a piece for Sportsday which would be shown on the BBC News Channel later that evening.  Bright lights and cameras!  Not something we were used to, apart from Nick, but another great experience.

We were also treated to a tour of the BBC Sport building, which is incredible in its design and looks a great place to work.  Considering there were deadlines etc. to work to, it all appeared very relaxed…..

Finally, it was off to record an interview for Radio Merseyside, with Sean Styles.

What a great opportunity to talk about the Crawley Old Girls and the FA People’s Cup!  So far, we have 8 teams entered but it could increase before the deadline. There are 18 categories, including Walking Football, Disability Football, Male and Female Vets, to name a few, so there is a category for everyone.  Closing date for entries is the 18th February, so get signed up before it’s too late!
