First ever Over 30’s Tournament at Powerleague Wembley – 31st July 2016.

Powerleague Wembley – 31st July 2016 – A day we’ll never forget!

Nicol Meredith (EFL Trust) and Rachel Pavlou (FA) have been instrumental on what the EFL Trust has done to promote Women & Girls Football.  The start of COGs was something of a new area to promote and with Nicol producing slides and promoting the COGs at EFL meetings everywhere, other EFL Clubs began to get involved in setting up their own “Old Girls” sessions. Along with AFC Wimbledon, Swindon, Coventry, Dagenham & Redbridge and Brentford there were now other sessions being funded and set up throughout the Country. Carol Bates and Amy Fazackerley were asked to do a presentation at one of the meetings and more clubs learned about the COGs.  Over the coming months, it was suggested that a friendly tournament be organised and Nicol set about delivering one!   A total of 80 women from 6 clubs turned up to Powerleague Wembley to play in the first ever tournament of its kind in the Country.

It was amazing to see so many women participating and enjoying the game, many of whom hadn’t been playing for long.  It was also a pleasure to have Dionne Lennon, former Millwall Lioness and the EFL Trust’s FFD Ambassador, attending and giving out the awards, along with Rachel Pavlou and Nicol Meredith.

It was an amazing day and we hope there are more to come!
