With the increased popularity spreading of “older” ladies learning to play football and all the benefits that go with it, Roxanne Bennett from the CPFC Life Foundation and Emma Barnes from Surrey FA have really taken the bull by the horns and been extremely successful in promoting and encouraging Mum’s and ladies who are new to football, to have a try at playing the game.
So successful have they been that a tournament for beginners, and ladies who had only started playing recently, was organised between them at Woking Leisure Centre, whereby it would give newcomers the chance to play against ladies of a similar ability.
10 teams entered (including 2 COGs’ teams) and played in two Leagues with everyone finishing in the same place in their respective leagues, playing each other in another game at the end.
To see so many ladies smiling, encouraging each other and having a thoroughly wonderful day was just brilliant and everyone said what a great day it had been. It was a time to bring the families to watch their Mums, Aunts, Nans and admire the skills and participation.
It was a great success and proves that there are many ladies out there who, given the chance, would love to play football regardless of their age or ability.
A great day for everyone!
