1st Birthday and 1st ever competitive match vs. AFC Wimbledon – 16th April 2016

Coincidentally, our Crawley Town FC EFL fixture, against rivals AFC Wimbledon, was on the 16th April 2016, exactly a year after our first session started. Emma O’Connor who does great work at the AFC Wimbledon Foundation, got together a group of ladies after the COGs were set up and really pushed the idea of having a session for ladies over 30.  This became a success at AFC Wimbledon and Emma, who works closely with Amy (Crawley Town Community Foundation) soon got together to organise our first ever competitive match.  This was to be played before the EFL fixture, at Kingsmeadow, and Emma even organised a Cup for the winners!

A great deal of effort was put in to promote the event, with Emma getting an article on the Club’s website….

It was a fantastic afternoon and to see so many ladies enjoying football was brilliant!   We did nick the Cup at the end (although we didn’t win) but soon had to give it back!  What a great 1st Birthday!
